A healthy small group enviroment will primarily foster and support two things, Christian community and growth. Therefore, the purpose of a small group ministry is to help the Body of Christ at large and local churches to experience community and grow spiritually.
As individuals gather together in the context of Christian friendship and biblical principles, spiritual growth is inevitable. When a person is intentional about being around and forming Christian friendship, it naturally paves the way for Christian spiritual growth to occur.
Churches and group leaders can have confidence that providing a healthy small group enviroment will produce growth. Hence, by incorporating the the following three elements into your small group ministry will help ensure safe, thriving and irrestible groups:
1. TRUST will help produce a safe small group enviroment.
Group members should be able to trust each other in the following ways:
*Expect genuine care and concern for each person in the group.
*Sharing in the group will not be used to slander or gossip about one another.
*Misunderstandings or miscommunication that takes place within the group can be worked out.
2. ENCOURAGEMENT will produce a thriving small group enviroment.
Group members should encourage one another in the following ways:
*To live according to the Word of God.
*Support to change as God directs and moves individuals.
*Challenge each other to use the gifts God places within their lives.
3. LOVE will produce an irrestible small group enviroment.
Group members should experience Christ-like love in the following ways:
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Is your group intentional about incorporating these elements into your time together?
How could your group experience trust, encouragement, and love in a greater way?
